Model license
Public models on lay-a-brick are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license (CC BY 4.0).
This is a translation for your convenience. Only the German version is legally binding.
What you may do with published models
- Build – with real bricks, as often as you like.
- Share – print the instructions, give them away, pass them on via link.
- Change – keep building as a remix in the editor and publish your version.
- Use commercially, too – for example, use printed instructions in a course.
What you need to keep in mind
Credit the creator. On lay-a-brick, this happens automatically: remixes show the original with a link and username, and every printed set of instructions carries the name. Outside lay-a-brick, a note like “Model by kiki_baut on lay-a-brick.de, license CC BY 4.0” is enough.
What you agree to when you publish
When you publish a model, you license it under CC BY 4.0. You confirm that you designed it yourself or are allowed to build on it as a remix, and that it does not infringe any third-party rights. The license continues to apply to remixes that have already been created, even if you withdraw your model later.
What the license does not cover
The lay-a-brick software, the logo and the design of the site are not licensed. Private models and models that are only shared via link are not automatically licensed under CC BY 4.0.
