lay-a-brick in schools and lessons

A tool for math, art and technology – no accounts for children, no cookies and free of charge.

Why lay-a-brick fits the classroom

  • No accounts for students. The editor runs in the browser without signing in. No personal data of the children is collected.
  • No cookies, no ads, no external services. This makes the data protection review at your school easier.
  • Printable results. Every model becomes building instructions with a parts list – as a PDF or on paper.
  • Runs on school computers and tablets with an up-to-date browser, no installation needed.

Five task ideas

Math: area and volume

Build a tower with a footprint of exactly 48 studs. How many bricks do you need for three layers? The parts list in the editor lets you check.

Math: scale

A brick is 8 mm wide and 9.6 mm high. Build a model of the classroom at a scale of 1:50 and convert the measurements.

Art: mosaic

Design a mosaic of 1×1 plates on a 32×32 baseplate, using no more than five colors. Print the instructions and build it in groups.

Technology: building for stability

Build a bridge that spans 16 studs. The editor shows bricks without support right away – why do staggered bricks hold better?

Language: writing instructions

Build a small model and write your own instructions for it. Compare them with the automatic instructions: which are clearer?

How it works in class

  1. The children open the editor and build. Models are saved in the browser of each device.
  2. To hand in their work, the children share their model via link or save a file.
  3. You open the links and print the instructions for the next lesson.
